ASABA/Nigeria: Political Analyst cum Human Rights activist, Comrade Emeka Nwokocha has said that the 2019 political dispensation would come as a surprise to many political pundits and political parties’ supporters, saying the unexpected would be the case.
Comr. Emeka made the statement in Effurun, headquarters of Uvwie local government area of Delta State, while appraising the political activities in Nigeria preceding the forth coming 2019 elections.
He took a swipe on politicians trying to overheat the polity and subvert the collective will of the Nigerian populace during the elections, even as he expressed fears that the wish of the people in Delta State might be thwarted by the “powers that be” warning that anything short of a free and fair elections will not be accepted by the people.
Comr. Emeka raised alarm that the two most popular parties in the country, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, are at daggers drawn, noting that many of the parties’ faithful “see the forthcoming elections as “a do or die affair.”
He called on the Federal and state governments to ensure adequate security is put in place to forestall any form of violence, saying that the Nigerian voter would prefer not to leave the comfort of his house when violence pervades the voting arena.
His words, “I foresee ambitious politicians not ready to play in line with the extant electoral procedures and laws. I see them wanting to do it their own way to get what they want. But that odious manipulations may not be tolerated this time as Nigerians are now wiser and conscious of their tomorrow and the future of their children, which they have known lately, can only be guaranteed by good governance achievable through free and fair elections.
“I strongly admonish any politician or political parties’ loyalists who may want to ferment trouble during the 2019 elections. I enjoin all Nigerians to work in unity to ensure the democratic process is not scuttled by any interest groups no Mather the power behind them. Nigeria has come of age as an indivisible entity and that bond of nationhood must be protected and sustained for the coming generations.”
Comr. Emeka advised Nigerians to protect their voters card and use it to elect the right person that will deliver the dividend of democracy to the indigent populace.
He tasked Nigerians to resist the lure of politicians aimed at mortgaging their future through vote buying, saying, “it is a serious electoral offence that must be shunned completely and discouraged in our electoral system.”
He charged INEC under the headship of Professor Mahmood Yakubu to be the transparent umpire in the forthcoming 2019 elections in the interest of the Nigerian populace who are yearning earnestly for good governance over the years.
