By Magnus Emuji

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Government (DTSG) has appealed to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to accredit some CBT centres for the 2023 JAMB examination that could not receive accreditation for one reason or the other in the state when the board visited the centres.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr.  Augustine Oghoro, said that the State Government was intervening on the issue to enable candidates to have adequate centres to seat for the examination in the state.

He made the disclosure during a meeting in Asaba with the State Coordinator of JAMB and the affected CBT owners.

Mr. Oghoro said that the interest of every child intending to write the Examination was paramount to the State, adding that it was on that premise that the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education appealed to JAMB to give the CBT centre owners a second chance by revisiting their centres for accreditation.

Speaking on behalf of the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, the Permanent Secretary said that their attention was drawn during stakeholders meeting with JAMB in Abuja that some CBT centres in Delta State were not approved as a result of their inability to meet certain requirements as at the time of the board’s visit to the centres.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of JAMB, Linda Ani Ajanwachuku stated that the Permanent Secretary, Mr Oghoro visited her office recently to intimate her of the fallout of their stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

She noted that worried by the development and the urgent need to resolve the issue, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education considered it necessary to hold the meeting with the affected CBT owners in order to ascertain from them if they had affected all the observations of JAMB during her earlier visit so that JAMB could revisit their centres.

In his remarks, the State JAMB ICT Advisor, Dr Emmanuel Okonta assured that all the centres in the state including the affected CBT centres have the capacity to conduct the examination, adding that JAMB would approve the centres now that the few observations by JAMB had been corrected.

Speaking separately, owners of CBT centres including Dr Ufuoma Onavwie, Mr Ede Hyacinth and Chika Nicholas appreciated the State GovernMagnus Emujiment for intervening on their behalf for JAMB to give them a second chance, stressing that everything had been put in place to guarantee their approval.
