KWALE/OBIARUKU, Nigeria: The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its grassroots mobilisation in Ndokwa Nation ahead of the 2027 general elections, following separate familiarisation and consultative visits by its Delta State Deputy Governorship Candidate, Chief Godwin Ossai, to party leaders and stakeholders in Ndokwa West and Ukwuani Local Government Areas.
The visits to Kwale and Obiaruku brought together members of the party’s expanded executive committees, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, elders and other stakeholders, providing an opportunity for the deputy governorship candidate to strengthen internal cohesion, discuss the party’s electoral strategy and canvass support for the NDC governorship ticket.
At Kwale, where he met with the Ndokwa West Local Government Area executive committee, Ossai was received by party members and supporters who expressed enthusiasm for the party’s proposed political direction under the slogan, RESET DELTA.
The gathering featured songs, chants and expressions of solidarity from party faithful, with members of the various party structures reaffirming their commitment to the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, Ossai outlined the vision of the NDC governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, describing the proposed RESET agenda as an effort to reposition Delta State through improved governance, economic productivity, fairness and social development.
He particularly raised concerns about the development challenges confronting Ndokwa communities, arguing that the area’s contribution to the state’s natural resource wealth should translate into better living conditions and greater economic opportunities for its people.
The deputy governorship candidate assured party members that an NDC administration, if elected, would pursue policies aimed at industrialisation, job creation and the more productive utilisation of the state’s resources.
He also called for unity within the party, stressing that political mobilisation and electoral success would depend on the ability of members to work together and build a strong grassroots structure.
At Obiaruku, the Ukwuani Local Government Area Chairman of NDC, Deacon Donald Chukwunalu Ogenwenu, alongside the local government executives, ward chairmen and their executives, party elders, leaders, youth and women representatives, held a consultative meeting with Ossai and his entourage on October 29.
Welcoming the deputy governorship candidate, the Ukwuani party leadership expressed its readiness to strengthen the party’s structures and mobilise support for the NDC candidates across the ten wards of the local government area.
Speaking at the forum, Ossai thanked the party leadership and members for their support for him and the governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He introduced himself as an educationist with teaching experience spanning primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, while also highlighting his background in banking, business administration and management consultancy.
He appealed to the party leadership to ensure that all interest groups within the NDC in Ukwuani remained united, noting that internal harmony and collective commitment were essential to building a formidable political platform.
Ossai reiterated that the Iyovwaye-led administration, if elected, would prioritise industrialisation, employment generation and prudent management of public resources as part of efforts to reposition Delta State.
He particularly challenged party members not to mistake social media popularity for actual electoral strength, urging them to concentrate on direct engagement with voters at the grassroots.
According to him, the party’s success would depend largely on its ability to reach voters in the ten wards and various polling units, explain its programmes and persuade the electorate to support its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
He therefore urged the Ukwuani leadership to intensify mobilisation and ensure that the NDC’s message reached communities across the local government area.
Responding, the NDC Publicity Secretary in Ukwuani, Comrade Uche Emmanuel Emmerson, assured the deputy governorship candidate that the party’s local government structure would embark on vigorous grassroots campaigns for all NDC candidates.
He pledged the support of the party’s executives and members for the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi; the Delta State governorship candidate, Deacon Chris Iyovwaye; the Delta North senatorial candidate, Hon. Victor Ochei; the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Victor Nwokolo; and the Ukwuani State Constituency candidate, Hon. Eze Omolu.
Emmerson said the party would work towards securing electoral victories for its candidates across the local government area in the 2027 elections.
The two visits form part of the NDC’s efforts to consolidate its political structures in Ndokwa communities, strengthen relationships with party stakeholders and translate its growing political presence into grassroots electoral support.
The engagements also underscored the importance of internal party cohesion, ward-level organisation and direct voter engagement as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections.
The NDC deputy governorship candidate’s consultations in Kwale and Obiaruku signal the party’s intention to make Ndokwa West and Ukwuani important areas of its mobilisation strategy as it seeks to expand its political base across Delta State.
