ABUJA/Nigeria: The Austin Orette Campaign Organisation has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the omission of its candidate, Dr Austin Orette, from the published list of candidates for the 2027 Delta South Senatorial District election.

The organisation made the demand in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Ovie Omajemite, in Owhelogbo, Delta State.

The statement, titled “Missing Candidate Name,” maintained that Orette remains the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the senatorial contest and urged the electoral commission to investigate and correct what it described as an omission in the final register.

“Dr. Austin Orette is the rightful candidate for the Delta South senatorial election,” the organisation said.

It further called on INEC to “restore or update its register,” insisting that the candidate’s absence from the published list requires urgent attention.

The campaign organisation warned that the exclusion, if not resolved, could have legal implications for the election.

“Wrongful exclusion will nullify the 2027 Delta South senatorial election completely in court,” it stated.

The group also commended the ADC’s state and national leadership for their position on the matter, while alleging that the omission was part of an attempt to undermine the party’s prospects in the senatorial district.

“This is a ploy by INEC and the ruling party to stop the ADC from winning the 2027 Delta South senatorial election,” the organisation alleged.

The statement did not include details of any formal legal action already filed or provide INEC’s response to the allegations.

The development adds another issue to the preparations for the 2027 Delta South senatorial election, with the campaign organisation seeking clarification and correction of the published candidate register.
