Part of Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State had being in total darkness for about 8 months due to disagreement between Consumers and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
According to Investigation by Ndokwa Reporters the Problem Started when the workers of the company where attacked at Umutu Community as a result of continuous darkness, but according to the people, the “company will not fail to distribute bills at the end of the month”.
However, from a vital document obtained from the President- General of Umutu Development Union (UDU), Chief Gil Uzoka, the disconnection is not only affecting Umutu, as the Communities of Owa-Abbi, Ebedei, Umuaja, Obi Obetim and other areas are affected.
Speaking further to Ndokwa Reporters Chief Gil Uzoka, said numerous effort to rectify the issue had been blocked by the management of the BEDC, both in Obiaruku and Benin City.
Our Investigation also revealed that at a stage, the communities where asked to pay the sum of N2 million naira to fix the assumed problem with the transformer, which the Honourable member, representing Ukwuani Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Alphonsus Ojo volunteered to pay, but at the payment point he was asked to pay fifteen million five hundred thousand naira.
Our investigation further revealed that, numerous efforts made by the immediate Transition Chairman of Ukwuani LGA, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, LGA Chairman, Deacon Monday Ossai in company of Hon Ojo also failed to resolved the lingering problem, as the management of the BEDC is insisting that the money be paid.
However, the residents of the affected areas had continued to run on generators for these past months, and are blaming bad government for their plights as most of the affected communities are the economic base of the LGA, and they had being running their homes and businesses on generators, they are also calling the regulatory body to call the BEDC to order.
However all efforts to get the Obiaruku service station manager to know while the lingering light problem in the area failed.
