Delta State/Nigeria: In a recent meeting with Assembly Correspondents, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, expressed his admiration for the professional conduct displayed by journalists deployed to cover the State Legislature.
The Speaker acknowledged their dedication in reporting on the House’s activities and encouraged them to maintain the same level of commitment. He emphasized that under his leadership, the State Legislature would continue to collaborate closely with the media to ensure efficient and effective information delivery.
Highlighting the crucial role of the media as partners in progress, Rt Hon Guwor reassured the journalists that he would prioritize the welfare of workers in the State Assembly. He also disclosed his intention to exercise utmost care in appointing his Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to avoid any mistakes. The Speaker emphasized the need for an organized and experienced individual who possesses a deep understanding of the media landscape and can work in harmony with the public and the press.
Expressing gratitude to the Assembly Correspondents for their visit, prayers, and ongoing support, Guwor acknowledged their renewed assurances and commitment to providing effective and efficient reportage of the House’s proceedings.
The Correspondents took the opportunity to congratulate Rt Hon Guwor on his appointment as the Speaker of the 8th Assembly and expressed their hopes for a productive working relationship. They also highlighted some challenges they face while carrying out their assignments and appealed to the Speaker to utilize his position to address these issues.
Governor Oborevwori Nominates Justice Ngozi Catherine Ojugbana-Orishedere as President of Customary Court of Appeal
In a separate development, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori forwarded the name of Justice Ngozi Catherine Ojugbana-Orishedere to the Delta State House of Assembly for confirmation as the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Delta State. The Governor’s message, conveyed in a letter to the House, was read during the plenary session by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.
Governor Oborevwori stated that the nomination of Justice Ojugbana-Orishedere followed the recommendation of the National Judicial Council of Nigeria. He further explained that the nomination was made in accordance with the powers conferred upon him by section 281, subsection 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as altered. The need for the nomination arose due to the retirement of the former President, Customary Court of Appeal, Delta State, Justice P.O. Elumeze, who reached the mandatory retirement age of sixty-five on April 2, 2023.
The letter was received by the Majority Leader, Hon Emeka Nwaobi, and was subsequently adopted for further legislative action. The Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of her Curriculum Vitae to the office of the House’s Clerk no later than Monday, July 10, 2023. Additionally, the nominee was scheduled to appear for screening on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
