ASABA/Nigeria: In a move to improve healthcare accessibility, the Director-General (DG) of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Olorogun (Dr.) Isaac Akpoveta, has reaffirmed the commission’s unwavering commitment to doubling the number of enrollees within the state’s contributory health insurance scheme.
Taking the helm of the commission in Asaba, Dr. Akpoveta emphasized the current statistics, stating, “So far, the count is 1.4 to 1.5 million enrollees, which is 25 percent of the population of Delta State.”
He declared the ambitious goal of doubling this figure within just one year.
To achieve this objective, the DG extended an earnest call to private businesses operating within the state, urging them to collaborate with the commission to expand access to quality healthcare for residents. Dr. Akpoveta stressed the mutual benefits of such partnerships and underscored the commission’s commitment to ensuring affordable and high-quality healthcare for every resident in Delta State, thereby reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses.
Dr. Akpoveta outlined a comprehensive strategy for realizing this vision. This includes ramping up public awareness campaigns to educate residents about the advantages of enrolling in the health insurance scheme, streamlining registration processes to facilitate sign-ups, and expanding the network of participating healthcare providers.
Highlighting the vital role of data-driven decision-making, the DG emphasized the need for accurate and up-to-date data to identify gaps in healthcare coverage and develop targeted interventions.
Expressing gratitude for his continued service, Dr. Akpoveta, the immediate past Board Chairman of the commission, thanked State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for entrusting him with this crucial mission to enhance healthcare accessibility in Delta State.
