PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has condemned the recent remarks made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, regarding the 2027 elections. Chief Eze described Wike’s comments as “ridiculous” and “insensitive,” particularly considering the dire economic situation facing Nigerians.
Speaking at a Thanksgiving Service in honor of Senator Barinada Mpigi, Wike expressed confidence in his camp’s ability to secure victory in the 2027 elections, citing the unity within his political group. He stated, “With the forces we have, I don’t know of anybody who can challenge us. I can tell you it is like tomorrow is 2027.”
Chief Eze criticized Wike for his apparent detachment from the realities on the ground, highlighting the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities such as fuel, rice, and cement. He emphasized that many Nigerians are facing severe hardships, with reports indicating that 46 academics in Abuja universities alone have died due to economic challenges.
Furthermore, Chief Eze pointed out the recent lamentations of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar, over the economic hardship in the country, noting that Nigerians are “angry and hungry.”
In light of these circumstances, Chief Eze condemned Wike’s focus on the 2027 elections, calling it a display of insensitivity and a disregard for the suffering of Nigerians. He urged Nigerians to be wary of Wike’s intentions, portraying him as a leader who does not have the country’s best interests at heart.
As the country grapples with economic challenges and social unrest, Chief Eze called for unity among Nigerians and emphasized the importance of prayer and hope for a better future.
