ASABA/Nigeria: In a recent media interaction with the Indigenous Correspondents Chapel (ICC) of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Delta State, Barr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Communications and Head of Delta State Orientation Bureau, lauded the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to reducing the cost of governance and ensuring the prudent management of state resources.
During the dialogue session at the “ICC MIRROR” platform, designed for insightful discussions, Latimore emphasized the detrimental effects of high governance costs on the local economy and national growth. He praised Governor Oborevwori for actively seeking ways to minimize wasteful spending in the state, including scrutinizing major transactions to prevent overpricing or inflated contracts.
Highlighting the governor’s fiscal discipline, Latimore revealed that no external borrowing has been undertaken to fund state projects. Instead, Governor Oborevwori has meticulously managed the state’s resources and directed the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) to boost internally generated revenue (IGR) by incorporating the informal sector.
Assuring the public of tangible progress under the governor’s “MORE Agenda,” Latimore predicted significant socioeconomic and infrastructure developments, job and wealth creation, sports advancement, and the establishment of the Orerokpe campus of Delta State University of Science and Technology Ozoro (DSUST) by the year’s end.
While expressing gratitude to the press for their longstanding support, spanning nearly two decades, Latimore urged journalists to prioritize factual reporting over speculation. He emphasized the importance of constructive criticism and precision journalism in informing the public accurately, cautioning against the dissemination of half-truths, fake news, or propaganda.
In his welcome address, ICC Chairman Comrade Kenneth Orusi commended Latimore for his visit and participation in the ICC MIRROR platform. He assured the government of the chapel’s support while affirming their commitment to highlighting areas requiring attention.
