Delta State Governor’s Aide Reaffirms Independence of Electoral Commission Ahead of Local Elections

ASABA/Nigeria: The Executive Assistant on Communications to Delta State Governor, Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, reiterated the commitment of the state government to uphold the independent status of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC). He praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a leader with integrity, affirming that the governor would not intervene in the operations of the electoral body in the forthcoming local government council elections.

Speaking on the State Television public affairs program, The Faculty, Oghenesivbe emphasized DSIEC’s pivotal role in ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process in the state. He clarified that the state government’s responsibility solely lies in providing necessary resources such as funds, security, and logistics to facilitate a smooth conduct of the elections.

Furthermore, Oghenesivbe outlined the procedural timeline for the upcoming elections, highlighting the commencement of political consultations, party primaries, and the emergence of candidates. He also discussed the Delta State Orientation Bureau’s plans to engage in voter sensitization campaigns to combat apathy and promote peaceful participation in the electoral process.

Switching gears to national issues, Oghenesivbe criticized the leadership and economic management of the All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government since 2015. He lamented the socioeconomic hardships faced by Nigerians, including a declining economy, heightened insecurity, and soaring inflation rates. Oghenesivbe specifically pointed out the sharp increase in the cost of essential commodities, which has exacerbated the plight of ordinary citizens.

Expressing disillusionment with the current administration, Oghenesivbe highlighted the growing calls from Nigerians for a return to the economic stability experienced prior to 2015. He underscored the perceived failures of the APC government and advocated for a shift in leadership, urging Nigerians to support the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as an alternative solution to address the nation’s challenges.

In summary, Oghenesivbe’s remarks underscore the Delta State government’s commitment to electoral integrity and the need for a change in national leadership to alleviate socioeconomic hardships facing Nigerians.
