ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has confidently forecasted success for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming local government council elections slated for July 13, 2024. Speaking at the culminating grand rally held at Asaba’s Cenotaph on Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori lauded the PDP’s chairmanship and councilorship candidates for their vigorous grassroots campaigns.
“The mega rally has provided us with a platform to amplify our candidates’ message across Asaba,” Governor Oborevwori remarked, expressing gratitude to the party’s founding leaders for unwavering support. He also seized the opportunity to address recent allegations of potential electoral malpractice made by a former gubernatorial candidate.
“It’s regrettable that some have preemptively alleged rigging,” Governor Oborevwori asserted, referencing televised remarks by a rival candidate. “Those who couldn’t secure their own polling units in previous elections are now casting doubt on the integrity of the upcoming local government polls.”
Governor Oborevwori urged supporters to mobilize effectively on the final day of campaigning, emphasizing the importance of peaceful participation and voter turnout on election day. “Every vote must count,” he declared, underscoring the electoral commission’s assurances of fair proceedings.
Acknowledging recent party defections as a boost to PDP’s unity, Governor Oborevwori welcomed former APC members into the fold, highlighting their decision as a testament to democratic ideals. He also commended former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his widespread campaign efforts and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to statewide infrastructure and socio-economic development.
Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme echoed optimism for a resounding victory, urging party faithful to rally behind PDP candidates for continued progress. Immediate past Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa echoed sentiments of readiness and unity within the party, cautioning against opposition distractions.
State PDP Chairman Dr. Kingsley Esiso expressed confidence in the party’s extensive campaign efforts, emphasizing unity and ongoing support from Delta residents. The rally also featured endorsements and messages of support from prominent political figures, including Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, and Senator James Manager.
In a show of solidarity, former APC stalwarts pledged allegiance to the PDP, vowing to contribute to the state’s growth under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership. Hon. Benjamin Okiemute Essien, a former Delta State House of Assembly member, affirmed his commitment to securing victory in Isoko, underscoring his role as a “political bulldozer.”
As the election day draws near, Governor Oborevwori urged Delta residents to exercise their voting rights peacefully and responsibly, ensuring a transparent electoral process that reflects the will of the people.
