DELSU Sets Saturday, April 26 Grand Convocation Week

ABRAKA/Nigeria: Delta State University, Abraka, has rolled out a robust schedule of events for its 2025 Convocation Week, celebrating academic excellence, alumni achievement, and the institution’s enduring legacy as one of Nigeria’s premier universities.

According to a release from the university management, the week-long celebration will commence on Friday, April 18, 2025, with a Jumaat Service at the Prayer Ground, Site III of the Abraka Campus, beginning at 12 noon. The spiritual tone of the celebration continues with a Pre-Convocation Service scheduled for Sunday, April 20, at 8:30 am at the Our Saviour’s Chapel, Site II.

Highlighting the formal proceedings, the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference will hold on Wednesday, April 23, at 10 am in the Faculty of Management Sciences Hall, Site III. The same day, an Arts Exhibition showcasing the creative prowess of the university’s talents will open by 1 pm at the Bruce Onobrakpeya Art Gallery within the Faculty of Arts Complex, Site II.

Thursday, April 24, will be dedicated to honoring the university’s alumni, with an Alumni Day event scheduled for 11 am at the 750A Seating Capacity TETFund Lecture Theatre, Site III. Later that evening, at 4 pm, the Convocation Drama performance will take the stage at the Arts Theatre, also on Site III, bringing a vibrant cultural touch to the festivities.

One of the major intellectual highlights of the convocation week will take place on Friday, April 25, when renowned academic, Professor Emeritus Peter Okebukola, of Lagos State University, will deliver the Convocation Lecture. Rehearsals for the main Convocation Ceremony will follow later in the day at 4 pm at the Convocation Arena, Site III.

The climax of the celebrations comes on Saturday, April 26, with the grand Convocation Ceremony, starting at 9 am at the Convocation Arena. The ceremony will feature the commissioning of key projects, the award of diplomas, first degrees, honorary degrees, and the presentation of prizes to outstanding students.

Closing the historic week, the university community will gather on Wednesday, April 30, for the Founders’ Day Thanksgiving Service, which will be held at 10 am at Our Saviour’s Chapel, Site II.

The 2025 Convocation Week promises to be a landmark celebration, reflecting Delta State University’s unwavering commitment to academic distinction, cultural pride, and community development.
