ABUJA/Nigeria: The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has projected a revenue target of N1.28 trillion for 2025, representing a 40 percent increase over the N894.8 billion generated in 2024.
The Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed this on Monday during the agency’s 2025 budget defence before the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbour in Abuja.
Dantsoho described the 2025 budget as more than just figures, saying it reflects the NPA’s determination to build a more efficient and globally competitive port system. He noted that the authority surpassed its 2024 revenue target of N865.39 billion, raking in N894.86 billion despite operational challenges.
“This shows our unwavering commitment to national revenue generation, even when our operational liquidity is affected,” Dantsoho said.
He outlined key revenue sources for 2025, including N544.06 billion from ship dues, N413.06 billion from cargo dues, N249.69 billion from concession fees, and N73.07 billion from administrative charges.
Committee Chairman, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, commended the NPA’s efforts but urged the agency to do more to enhance port infrastructure and address Nigeria’s revenue and unemployment challenges.
“The ports remain the economic heartbeat of any nation, determining how buoyant a country is through the flow of imports and exports. We expect detailed strategies to improve revenue generation and expand job creation,” Nnaji said.
He emphasized that the NPA’s performance has far-reaching implications beyond the maritime sector, stressing that thriving ports are vital to economic growth and employment.
