Delta Bids Farewell to Governor’s Aide, Sunday Kotor, as Leaders Celebrate Legacy of Dedicated Public Service

OKWAGBE/Nigeria: Delta State stood still on Friday as government officials, political leaders, family members and associates gathered at Okwagbe Waterside in Ughelli South Local Government Area to bid a final farewell to Mr. Sunday Kotor, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Protocol, whose life was celebrated as a shining example of dedicated public service, humility and integrity.

Kotor, who died on March 20, 2026, at the age of 63, was laid to rest after a well-attended funeral service held at the open grounds of Okwagbe Secondary School, Okwagbe Waterside.

Leading the roll call of dignitaries at the solemn ceremony was Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who was joined by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; the member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive; members of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, senior government officials, political associates, traditional leaders, clerics and other well-wishers.

The large congregation paid glowing tributes to the late protocol officer, recalling his commitment to duty, professionalism and loyalty throughout his years of service to the Delta State Government.

Delivering the funeral sermon titled “Making Use of Opportunities,” Rev. Dr. Ambrose Akpotor described the deceased as a man who maximised every opportunity placed before him and distinguished himself through faithful and selfless service under successive administrations.

According to the cleric, Kotor’s unwavering dedication to public service earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, political leaders and members of the public, leaving behind a legacy worthy of emulation.

He challenged the congregation to learn from the life of the deceased by embracing every opportunity to make meaningful contributions to society, stressing that lives are ultimately measured not by their length but by their impact.

Rev. Akpotor further encouraged believers to live with purpose, integrity and unwavering faith, reminding them that every opportunity to serve humanity should be regarded as a divine privilege.

Special prayers were offered for the widow, Mrs. Victoria Kotor, the children and the entire Kotor family, with the cleric urging them to draw strength from the exemplary life their husband, father and patriarch lived and from the enduring legacy he left behind.

The funeral ceremony drew sympathisers from across Delta State and beyond, many of whom described the late Sunday Kotor as a dependable public servant whose dedication, humility and commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on those who worked closely with him.

As tributes continued to pour in, mourners reflected on a life devoted to service, remembering Kotor not only as a trusted government aide but also as a compassionate family man and respected member of his community whose legacy of loyalty, diligence and integrity will continue to inspire future generations.
