Delta Govt Defends Project Spread, Lists Major Investments in Udu Amid Protests

Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori

ASABA/Nigeria: In the wake of recent protests in Udu Local Government Area, the Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development across all parts of the state, regardless of political affiliations during the last election.

Addressing journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the Oborevwori-led administration welcomes constructive criticism but warned against politically motivated falsehoods aimed at misleading the public ahead of the 2027 elections.

Aniagwu, flanked by key media aides including the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Director-General of the State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore, and Executive Assistant on Public Enlightenment, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, accused certain individuals of sponsoring discontent to distort facts and incite division.

“The government’s development effort in Udu is evident and ongoing,” Aniagwu said. “Despite the area not voting overwhelmingly for us, we’ve remained committed to infrastructure and human capital investment.”

Highlighting completed and ongoing projects in Udu, Aniagwu listed over 27.8 kilometers of roads and 24 kilometers of drains, including key routes connecting Uvwie, Ughelli South, and Warri South-West. He noted works such as the DSC Roundabout Flyover, Bezi Road in Aladja, CAC Road, and the Opete Waterside Road project.

He also mentioned the rehabilitation of the Ekakpamre–Ekrokpe–Usiefrun–Orhuwhorun Road, which spans Udu and Ughelli South, and other roads like Awharode Street, Dickey Street, and Arhavwarien Avenue in DSC Township. Phase II of the Aladja–Ogbe-Ijoh Road has entered the procurement stage.

On infrastructure and market development, Aniagwu pointed to the N4.8 billion Udu Harbour Market, featuring 230 shops, a modern abattoir, solar lighting, and security. He said healthcare facilities in four communities have also been revamped, and a 4D ultrasound machine has been delivered to the General Hospital in Otor-Udu.

In education, the government is renovating schools across the LGA, including Ogbe-Udu, Okolor Waterside, Ekete, Owhrode, and Aladja. A state-of-the-art JAMB ICT Centre is under construction at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School, while other schools are receiving classroom blocks, toilets, and new furniture.

He also confirmed the installation of a 500KVA transformer on Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road and the replacement of solar-powered streetlights in Ukpiovwin and Ogbe-Udu communities.

“These are tangible, verifiable projects,” Aniagwu said. “We urge the public, especially youths, not to fall for orchestrated misinformation. We are governing with fairness and delivering across all 25 LGAs—Udu included.”

He stressed that the administration remains open to genuine feedback but will continue to resist attempts to derail its development agenda with politically motivated narratives
