LAGOS/Nigeria: In a compassionate display of corporate social responsibility, the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has donated school bags, notebooks, pens, and Bibles to pupils of the Nigerian Red Cross Nursery and Primary School in Makoko, Lagos, while also extending food relief to 70 households in the community.

The outreach, held on Friday at the school premises, was part of BSN’s Macedonia Call initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families affected by the ongoing economic challenges in the country.

Representing the BSN General Secretary, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, the Manager of Production and Programme, Mrs. Grace Benjamin, said the visit was part of the Society’s commitment to empowering children with learning materials and assisting families with basic needs.

“This is not our first visit to Makoko,” Mrs. Benjamin said. “We keep returning because we recognize the need. Today, we’re donating not just supplies, but hope—hope for children and relief for their parents. We know this won’t solve every problem, but it shows we care.”

In addition to educational supplies, each of the 70 households received food items intended to cushion the economic hardship faced by many families in the informal settlement.

The Lagos Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross, Mr. Olakunle Lasisi, applauded the BSN for its consistent support, describing the intervention as timely and impactful. He reaffirmed the Red Cross’s commitment to collaborating with credible partners to uplift vulnerable communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adebanke Fagbamila, whose daughter attends the school, said the donation came as a blessing.

“This came at the right time,” she said. “Things are really tough, and this support eases our burden. We’re grateful.”

BSN continues to advance its mission of making the Word of God accessible while actively engaging in initiatives that promote social welfare and community development across Nigeria.
