IBADAN/Nigeria: In a landmark move to ease travel for students and boost youth welfare, the Oyo State Government, through Pacesetter Transport Services, has launched a subsidised return transport scheme for students of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.

The initiative, which was officially unveiled earlier this week, is a collaborative effort between Pacesetter Transport Services and the Ajayi Crowther University Alumni Association. It is designed to provide students with affordable transportation from the university to key locations in Ibadan and Lagos.

Chairman of Pacesetter Transport Services, Dr. Oladeji Dikko Salami, announced the scheme in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan, describing it as part of the state government’s efforts to support educational advancement and student welfare.

“This program is not just about transport; it’s about connecting the town and gown through impactful partnerships,” Dr. Salami stated, noting that the drop-off points include Moniya Train Station in Ibadan, Oshodi Terminal, and Ojota Terminal in Lagos.

The Global President of the Alumni Association and Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), Hon. Busoye Ogunlade, praised the scheme as a fulfillment of the alumni body’s promise to support students through government and institutional collaborations.

“This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to our mandate. We promised to attract opportunities for the benefit of students, and this is just one of several impactful projects we intend to deliver,” Ogunlade said.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support for education in Oyo State, describing the governor’s administration as one that has consistently prioritized student welfare and institutional development.

The alumni body also commended Dr. Salami for facilitating the implementation of the initiative and ensuring a seamless collaboration between the university and the transport agency.

The subsidised transport scheme is expected to ease the financial burden of students returning home and serve as a model for future partnerships between the government and academic institutions across the country.
