ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly has constituted a seven-member ad-hoc committee to investigate the lingering crisis at the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, following reports of a deepening rift between the Governing Council and the Management of the institution.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, announced the committee’s formation during Wednesday’s plenary session after the House adopted a motion of urgent public importance raised by the Member representing Aniocha South Constituency, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia.
In his motion, Hon. Anwuzia expressed serious concern over what he described as an “unhealthy working relationship” between the two governing bodies of the polytechnic, warning that the situation was already undermining the smooth running and public image of the institution.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Peace and Security, said the crisis, rooted in administrative and financial disagreements, had escalated into a full-blown institutional conflict that now threatens the polytechnic’s rising profile.
According to him, the motion was intended to restore peace, promote accountability, and safeguard stability in the state’s tertiary education system. He noted that the Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, once a pride of Delta State, risked reputational damage if urgent steps were not taken to resolve the crisis.
Presenting the motion, Hon. Anwuzia stated: “Mr. Speaker, I rise this morning to bring to the attention of this Honourable House the unhealthy working relationship between the Governing Council and the Management of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. This crisis is already taking a toll on the smooth administration of the institution.”
He urged the House to investigate the affairs of the polytechnic from 2023 to date, particularly the issues arising from the conflict between the Rector and the Governing Council, with a view to finding a lasting resolution.
Responding to the motion, Speaker Guwor promptly announced the constitution of a seven-man ad-hoc committee headed by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi. The committee was tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into the crisis and reporting its findings and recommendations to the House by October 28, 2025.
The Speaker stressed that the Assembly remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the state’s tertiary institutions, assuring that the matter would be treated with the urgency it deserves.
