
LAGOS/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, Editor of Sunday ThisDay Newspaper, Mr. Davidson Iriekpen, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Capital Express Life Assurance Limited, Mr. Mathew Ogelenya Ogwezhi, were among twelve distinguished members of the Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi Class of ’93, honoured with Awards of Excellence during their 32-year reunion celebration held in Lagos at the weekend.
Other honourees included two notable diaspora members , Mr. Jolly Iguodala (UK) and Mr. Thompson Okasaibor (Canada) — as well as Chief Chris Mogaha, a leading entrepreneur; Mr. Alfred Akokhia, a veteran advertising expert; Rev. Austen Akhagbeme, a realtor; Mr. Basil Agbarume, an aviation professional; Mrs. Joan Enega, a public relations consultant; and another distinguished member serving in a top echelon of one of Nigeria’s security agencies.
The awardees were celebrated for their exceptional career achievements and sustained contributions to the growth of the alumni body. The award ceremony was the highlight of the three-day reunion tagged “Lasgidi Titanic Reunion,” which featured a business session, lecture, tributes, networking, musical performances, a toast to friendship, and the election of new executive officers.
Delivering the reunion lecture titled “Cyber Security,” the guest speaker, Dr. Onyekachi Nnabuihe, Associate Professor and Acting Head of the Department of Criminology, Security, Peace, and Conflict Studies at Caleb University, Lagos, underscored the need for greater awareness and collaboration in addressing emerging digital security threats in Nigeria.
During the general session, members of the association unanimously returned Barr. Andrew Lawani as President to lead the body for another three years, alongside Mrs. Agatha Mathew (Vice President), Mr. Lawrence Ojeashi (Secretary), Mrs. Ejiro Enebeli (Treasurer), Mrs. Mercy Omokodion (Financial Secretary), Mrs. Vivien Uchunor (Public Relations Officer), Mr. Eloka Ogomegbunem (Diaspora Coordinator), Mr. Fatai Otokiti (Provost), and Mr. Daniel Owei (Welfare Officer).
In his acceptance remarks, Barr. Lawani expressed deep appreciation to members for their continued confidence in his leadership, pledging to sustain the association’s focus on member welfare and initiatives aimed at supporting their alma mater.
He described the reunion as a “memorable celebration of friendship, resilience, and shared history,” urging members to uphold the values of unity, loyalty, and mutual support that have defined the Class of ’93 over the years.
Other speakers at the event echoed the call for stronger bonds among members and prayed for peace, progress, and divine protection for all alumni and their families. A minute of silence was also observed in honour of deceased colleagues.
The gathering concluded with a unanimous resolution to sustain the reunion tradition, with members agreeing to reconvene for their next grand reunion in 2028.
