Oborevwori Reaffirms Partnership with Church in Delta’s Development Agenda

BOMADI/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s strong partnership with the church as a key stakeholder in advancing the state’s sustainable development agenda.

The governor made the remark in Bomadi during a Mass to celebrate the 70th birthday of the Bishop of Bomadi Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Hyacinth Egbebo. Represented by his Senior Policy Adviser, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, Governor Oborevwori described the church as a vital pillar in nation-building and a dependable partner in promoting peace, social justice, and moral rebirth.

“In times like these, the prayers and support of the church are critical in making governance more meaningful,” Oborevwori said, stressing that the moral guidance and community service of the church complement government’s efforts in ensuring equity and sustainable growth.

The governor commended Bishop Egbebo for his courage in defending the rights of the oppressed and for his continued advocacy for justice and fairness. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive development across all parts of Delta State, assuring that no community would be left behind in the ongoing transformation drive.

Highlighting key projects in Bomadi and its environs, Oborevwori mentioned the successful completion of the Ohoror–Bomadi Road and the Tamigbe–Torugbene Road, alongside the Ayakoromor Bridge project, which he said was nearing completion. He reaffirmed his resolve to leave behind the best network of roads in Nigeria by the end of his tenure.

Delivering the homily, the Bishop of Warri Diocese, Most Rev. Anthony Ewherido, called for gratitude and accountability in life, urging the faithful to appreciate the gift of life and use their blessings responsibly. “Life is a gift we must be thankful for — a gift we must not take for granted. We will all give account of how we used our blessings,” Bishop Ewherido said.

In his response, Bishop Egbebo expressed deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for the reconstruction of the Ohoror–Bomadi Road and other developmental interventions in the area. He assured the governor of the church’s continued prayers and support for the success of his administration.

The ceremony was graced by prominent clerics and dignitaries, including the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Benin Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubueze; Bishop Anthony Ewherido; and the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff.

Governor Oborevwori’s message underscored his belief that collaboration between the government and the church remains crucial to achieving social stability, moral renewal, and sustainable progress in Delta State.
