ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwo, whose lifeless body was discovered in her Asaba residence with her hands, legs, and mouth tied.

According to a statement signed by Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, the incident was reported on November 24, 2025, by the brother of the deceased, who raised alarm after visiting her home and finding her dead in the sitting room under suspicious circumstances.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, led operatives to the residence, where the corpse was evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. Police authorities confirmed that one suspect, identified as Lucky Matthew, has already been arrested in connection with the killing, while the principal suspect, Godwin Vanem, is currently on the run.

On the directive of the Commissioner of Police for the state, Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for what the command described as a discreet and thorough investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Vanem is strongly suspected to have committed the act before fleeing the apartment.

The command has launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect, assuring the public that every resource will be deployed to bring him to justice. Abaniwonda, while condoling with the family of the late Justice Okogwo, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators face the law.

The police urge anyone with credible information that could aid the investigation or lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact the command
