LAGOS/Nigeria: The immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has been honoured with the “Best Security Supportive Politician of the Year” award at the maiden RazorNews Inter-Agency Cooperation Award, held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Shoragate Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.
The award recognised political leaders whose contributions have strengthened Nigeria’s security architecture, with organisers highlighting Elumelu’s consistent backing for inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing and legislative support aimed at boosting national security operations. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, presented the award on behalf of the organisers to Elumelu’s representative.
With the theme “Inter-Agency Unity: The Power of Collective Action,” the event brought together senior figures from the military, intelligence community, police formations, emergency agencies, political institutions and private security organisations. Organisers noted that the award celebrates individuals who work “behind the scenes” to empower security bodies in tackling evolving threats across the country.
Elumelu, who served as Minority Leader between 2019 and 2023, has long been commended for his strategic engagements with security agencies and his advocacy for improved funding, better welfare and stronger policy frameworks to combat insurgency, banditry, proliferation of illegal arms and grassroots insecurity. His motions and legislative interventions frequently drew attention to violent attacks in rural communities, cybercrime, youth restiveness and the need for urgent government response in vulnerable areas.
Across his constituency, Elumelu has executed several security-focused projects, including building staff quarters and a clinic for DSS operatives, renovating DSS facilities, rehabilitating police stations, providing operational vehicles and supporting the upgrade of the NSCDC command office, including reconnection to the national grid and installation of solar lighting systems. He also installed hundreds of solar streetlights to improve night-time safety and aid security patrols.
RazorNews said the recognition reflects Elumelu’s “unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security agencies and promoting inter-agency harmony at both legislative and grassroots levels,” describing political leadership as a crucial but often overlooked pillar of national security advancement.
Other honourees at the event included the Nigerian Army (Outstanding Defence Force of the Year), the Nigeria Customs Service (Award for Illicit Arms and Drug Interception) and various private security organisations recognised for operational excellence. Organisers said the awards aim to promote the values of collaboration, unity and shared responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
Political observers say the honour further strengthens Elumelu’s reputation as a statesman whose influence extends beyond parliamentary work into national cohesion and security advocacy. His emergence as the Best Security Supportive Politician highlights the necessity for political actors to champion policies and partnerships that reinforce national stability.
As security remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing concerns, Elumelu’s recognition is expected to resonate widely among communities, stakeholders and national leadership as an example of how political engagement can meaningfully contribute to safer societies.
