Eze Hails Atiku’s Move to ADC, Says Real Battle for 2027 Has Begun

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, who has hailed Atiku’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a defining step toward building a united opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has congratulated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on his formal registration with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a political turning point capable of mobilising widespread national support to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Eze said Atiku’s decision has “reset the political chessboard,” insisting that Nigerians now have a credible platform around which to rally in their quest to end what he called “the misrule and embarrassment” of the current administration.

He accused President Tinubu and his team of reducing Nigeria to “a global laughingstock” through incompetence, selective leadership and a lack of patriotism, adding that “the time has come for the country to breathe again.”

“With this timely, bold and audacious move, the game has started,” Eze said. “The battle to rescue Nigeria from bad democratic governance and a clueless regime has just begun. Atiku will deploy his vast network, political sagacity and leadership experience for the good of the ADC and the nation.”

He said Atiku’s entry—combined with the political weight of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who twice successfully served as Director-General of the Buhari presidential campaigns—has set the ADC on a clear path towards forming the next government.

According to him, Tinubu’s handling of the economy, escalating poverty levels and worsening insecurity have already paved the way for Nigerians to embrace the ADC as a viable alternative in 2027.

Although Eze is yet to join the ADC, he assured that he would “soon align with other progressives” committed to rescuing the nation from what he described as the tribalistic and nepotistic governance style of the Tinubu administration.

He appealed to leading political figures including Amaechi, Peter Obi, David Mark, and Nasir El-Rufai, as well as supporters of Atiku and all pro-reform groups, to maintain unity of purpose in order to remove the APC from power.

Eze also commended Adamawa political heavyweights such as former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, Senator Aisha Binani, Senator Abdullazeez Nyako, Senator Ahmed Barata and Senator Ishaku Abbo for their solidarity with Atiku under the ADC platform.

He praised the ADC Registration and Mobilisation Committee and supporters across the country who accompanied Atiku to Jada 1 Ward, Adamawa State, on November 24 for his formal registration.

Eze further thanked Atiku for assuring party stakeholders of his commitment to working with other opposition leaders and Nigerians to “chase the APC out of government,” urging all anti-Tinubu forces to seize the moment and unite.

Finally, he urged former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to resist calls to contest the 2027 election outside the ADC, warning that such a move would “hand Tinubu a free ticket to continue his maladministration beyond 2027.”
