
ASABA/Nigeria: Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties (Government House), Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Comrade Matthew Ochei, a correspondent with Punch Newspapers, describing his passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession.
In a condolence message, Dr. Osuoza extended his heartfelt sympathies to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the Correspondence Chapel, and the management and staff of The Punch Newspapers, noting that Ochei was a committed journalist and unionist whose professionalism and courage stood him out among his peers.
He said the late journalist’s dedication to ethical journalism and service to the NUJ earned him the respect of colleagues and stakeholders, adding that his contributions to the media profession would be fondly remembered even as his absence would be deeply felt.
“At this moment of profound grief, I share in your sorrow and pray that God Almighty grants the NUJ family, his colleagues at The Punch Newspapers, friends and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Osuoza said.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Ochei’s soul and urged journalists to sustain the values and professional ideals he exemplified, noting that his legacy should continue to inspire the journalism profession.
