ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, has debunked reports alleging his suspension from the All Progressives Congress in Akumazi Ward of Ika North East Local Government Area, describing the claim as a fabrication driven by political mischief and internal misunderstanding.
Speaking during an appearance on ARISE News’ The Morning Show, the commissioner maintained that he remains a loyal member of the party and insisted that no recognized organ of the APC in Delta State had initiated or approved any disciplinary action against him. He urged party members and the public to disregard what he called a baseless social media narrative amplified without verification.
Aniagwu questioned the credibility of the purported suspension letter, arguing that it lacked procedural legitimacy because no petition, complaint or formal process preceded it. According to him, due process under party rules requires formal allegations, investigation and fair hearing before any disciplinary measure can be contemplated.
He explained that the controversy stemmed from ongoing ward congress activities and internal arrangements tied to party primaries, alleging that certain caretaker committee members had sought his endorsement as ward leader to facilitate their return to office through what he described as an imposition rather than a consensus-based process. He said he advised them to present themselves before the ward’s leadership structure for consideration instead.
The commissioner noted that the ward leadership opted to uphold existing zoning arrangements, which he said had historically preserved peace and balance within the local party structure. He added that those unable to secure reappointment through consensus allegedly resorted to unconstitutional steps in an attempt to force their way back into the executive.
Despite the development, Aniagwu said he declined suggestions from some ward leaders to initiate disciplinary action against those responsible, stating that he preferred to treat the matter as an internal disagreement among colleagues rather than escalate tensions. He likened their reaction to that of aggrieved associates disappointed by an unfavourable outcome.
He also commended THISDAY and ARISE News for exercising restraint and not amplifying the claims prematurely, explaining that he initially chose not to respond because he did not consider the issue significant.
Reaffirming his commitment to the APC, Aniagwu stressed that any legitimate disciplinary move must comply strictly with constitutional provisions, including formal notification of allegations and an opportunity to respond. He concluded that the reported suspension was merely an exaggerated internal misunderstanding that did not reflect the official position of the party.
