LAGOS/Nigeria: The Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, has described the News Agency of Nigeria as a critical partner in driving public orientation and behavioural change on environmental responsibility, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to sustained collaboration on awareness campaigns.
Gbadegesin made the remarks during a courtesy visit to Ifeyinwa Omowole, Managing Editor and Acting Head of NAN Operations in Lagos, noting that the engagement was a continuation of earlier discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in public enlightenment and responsible waste management advocacy.
He stressed the importance of consistent sensitisation of residents on proper waste disposal practices, emphasising that strategic communication partnerships remain vital to achieving lasting environmental compliance and civic responsibility.
“We are here as a continuation of our partnership, particularly in the area of education and public orientation,” he said, adding that effective media collaboration enhances outreach and ensures that environmental messages reach wider audiences.
Responding, Omowole assured LAWMA of accurate and factual coverage of its activities, stating that NAN’s reputation for credibility and its nationwide network of correspondents position it as a reliable platform for disseminating information. She encouraged the authority to leverage the agency’s editorial services and digital platforms to amplify visibility for its sanitation and waste management initiatives.
She also commended LAWMA’s efforts toward improving the environmental outlook of Lagos, describing the state as a reference point for effective waste management practices in the country.
Both organisations pledged to deepen cooperation in promoting environmental awareness and sustaining a cleaner city, with the visit culminating in the presentation of waste and recycling bins by LAWMA to NAN to support proper waste disposal within its office premises.
