UNIDEL Honours Delta Speaker Guwor for Educational Support at Maiden Convocation

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, presents an award of recognition to Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, during the institution’s maiden convocation ceremony.

AGBOR/Nigeria: The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has been honoured by the University of Delta, Agbor in recognition of his contributions to the institution’s growth and advancement.

Guwor received the distinguished award alongside 17 prominent Nigerians during the university’s maiden convocation ceremony, an event attended by top government officials, academics, traditional rulers, political leaders and students. Other honourees included Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, business magnate Jim Ovia, and Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission board.

The presentation, conducted by Vice-Chancellor Stella Chiemeke, was greeted with applause as the Speaker stepped forward to receive the award. In its citation, the university described the 46-year-old lawmaker as a strong advocate of educational development whose legislative backing and policy support have helped strengthen the structural and academic framework of the institution.

University officials also noted that Guwor’s recent election as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria underscored his growing national profile and leadership influence. They credited him with facilitating initiatives that have supported the university’s expansion and enhanced its academic environment.

Reacting, the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, described his principal as a visionary leader committed to good governance and development, saying the recognition reflected his sustained efforts to promote education and institutional growth. He added that the honour was both a personal distinction and a validation of Guwor’s dedication to advancing educational opportunities, particularly for youths in his Warri South West constituency.

Nwaeke assured that the Speaker would continue to champion policies aimed at strengthening academic excellence and infrastructure across educational institutions in Delta State, noting that the award presentation was one of the major highlights of the convocation ceremony.
