Oborevwori Mourns Former Deputy Governor Benjamin Elue at 85

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who died at the age of 85.

Describing him as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator and committed party man, Governor Oborevwori said the late elder statesman made enduring contributions to the growth and stability of Delta State.

Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor to former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007, a period during which he was widely respected for his humility, dedication to duty and unwavering loyalty to the administration.

In a condolence message issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the Governor said the news of Elue’s passing was received with shock and sadness, even as he expressed gratitude to God for a life of service to Delta State and the nation.

He noted that beyond politics, the late Deputy Governor was also a renowned teacher who committed himself to mentoring younger generations.

According to the Governor, Elue’s calm disposition, wisdom and commitment to unity played a significant role in strengthening democratic governance in Delta State, particularly in the formative years of the Fourth Republic.

Oborevwori also recalled his steadfast dedication to peace and unity, as well as his contributions to the development of the state.

“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of honour and integrity who served our dear state with passion and loyalty. His invaluable service to Delta and its citizens will remain evergreen,” he said.

The Governor added that Elue’s exemplary life and distinguished service earned him widespread respect across political divides.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire Delta State over the loss.

Oborevwori prayed for the peaceful repose of the late elder statesman and for strength for his family and loved ones in this time of grief.
