ABUJA/Nigeria: Senator Ede Dafinone has reiterated the need for stronger unity among the Urhobo people as he hosted the March edition of his monthly “Meet-and-Greet” gathering in Abuja, bringing together Urhobo sons and daughters from diverse professional backgrounds to strengthen collaboration and promote collective development.
The lawmaker representing Delta Central Senatorial District said the initiative was designed to create a platform where Urhobo professionals can interact, share ideas and build meaningful relationships capable of advancing the interests of the Urhobo nation.
Addressing participants at the event, Dafinone stressed that the Urhobo people share a common heritage that should naturally inspire cooperation, mutual support and a sense of collective responsibility toward one another.
He urged attendees to take advantage of the gathering to establish professional networks and partnerships that would benefit both individuals and the wider Urhobo community.
The senator further encouraged Urhobo professionals across different sectors to remain deliberate about creating opportunities for one another wherever they find themselves, noting that a culture of support and mentorship would enable members of the community to grow and excel.
According to him, genuine progress for the Urhobo nation can only be achieved when individuals within the community actively lift others and transform the idea of unity into practical actions that deliver real impact.
“Our strength lies in our unity. When we intentionally support one another and create opportunities for our people, we build a stronger and more prosperous Urhobo nation,” he said.
The event also featured a symbolic presentation by one of the participants, Dr. Benjamin Irikefe, who formally presented his book titled Handbook of Skill Acquisition Training and Empowerment Programmes to the senator.
Receiving the publication, Dafinone commended the author for contributing to knowledge and practical solutions aimed at empowering individuals, particularly through skill acquisition and capacity development initiatives.
He noted that programmes focused on training and empowerment remain critical tools for building resilient communities and expanding opportunities for young people and professionals.
Participants at the gathering described the event as more than a social engagement, noting that it provided a valuable platform for Urhobo professionals to reconnect, exchange ideas and strengthen the bonds that unite them.
Observers say the monthly meet-and-greet initiative has continued to grow in relevance, serving as a bridge for collaboration and reinforcing shared aspirations among Urhobo people across different fields and sectors.
