ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Police Command has launched a major crackdown on alleged sexual violence linked to a festival in Ozoro, arresting six suspects, including a prominent community leader, as investigations intensify.

The action followed the emergence of disturbing viral videos from Oramudu Quarters in Isoko North Local Government Area, which reportedly captured scenes of young women being molested and sexually assaulted during the event, triggering widespread outrage.

In a statement issued on March 20, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, had condemned the incident in strong terms, describing the acts as criminal, inhumane and a gross violation of the victims’ dignity and fundamental rights.

The police confirmed that the chief organiser of the event, Chief Omorede Sunday, was among those arrested, alongside four other suspects, while the head of Oramudu community has also been taken into custody in connection with the case.

As part of efforts to ensure a thorough investigation, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and directed the deployment of tactical and investigative teams to identify and apprehend other persons involved.

“The Command unequivocally condemns such acts in their entirety. Acts of sexual violence are criminal and unacceptable under any guise,” the statement read.

The Command called on victims and witnesses to assist the investigation by providing useful information, assuring that all contributions would be handled with strict confidentiality and professionalism.

CP Adesola further urged residents of the state to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, reiterating the police’s commitment to protecting lives, upholding citizens’ rights and ensuring justice is served.

The Delta State Police Command also assured that all individuals found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, emphasizing that criminal acts would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
