LAGOS/Nigeria: The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has charged its newly promoted Corps Commanders and Deputy Corps Commanders to demonstrate higher levels of responsibility, loyalty and commitment in the discharge of their duties.
The Zonal Commanding Officer, RS2, Assistant Corps Marshal Matthew Olonisaye, gave the charge on Wednesday during the decoration ceremony of the promoted officers in Lagos, noting that RS2 covers Lagos and Ogun States.
Olonisaye congratulated the officers on their elevation, describing the promotion as both a privilege and a call to greater service. “I wish to congratulate the officers. Promotion only comes from God,” he said, adding that their new ranks come with increased responsibility, particularly in ensuring the safety of lives on highways.
He stressed that while certain lapses might have been overlooked at lower ranks, the expectations at their current level are significantly higher. According to him, the officers must now exhibit unwavering commitment, discipline and loyalty to the Corps.
“When you were at lower ranks, there were things overlooked, but now we expect you to be more responsible, committed and loyal. Your loyalty to the Corps should not be shaken,” Olonisaye stated.
He warned that errors would no longer be tolerated and cautioned against the misuse of authority, urging the officers not to intimidate subordinates or abuse their positions.
Also speaking, the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, described the decoration ceremony as a “seal of victory,” commending the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, for what he termed a fair and efficient promotion process.
“This is a total package in the sense that everyone sent for the promotion got promoted, and this is a thing of joy. To whom much is given, much is expected,” Hamzat said, urging the officers to work collaboratively towards enhancing road safety across the country.
In his goodwill message, a retired FRSC officer, Mr. Abayomi Olukoju, offered prayers for the newly promoted officers, asking God to grant them wisdom and effectiveness in their new roles.
Similarly, Col. Ibrahim Gobir of the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army urged the officers to serve as role models, emphasizing the need for introspection and continuous improvement. “You need to look at what you have done and what you still need to do for the Corps and the whole nation,” he advised.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, Corps Commander Lucas Oguntade expressed gratitude to God and the FRSC leadership for the opportunity. He described the promotion exercise as remarkable and appreciated the Corps Marshal for his magnanimity.
“The exercise was breathtaking and we appreciate the Corps Marshal for his magnanimity and the FRSC management for this opportunity. We pray that the spirit of error will not fall on any of us,” Oguntade said.
Officers promoted to the rank of Corps Commander include Lucas Oguntade, Nimota Okoro, Chinwendu Iwoha, Adeyemi Bashir, Kareem Olawale and Onyekachi Nnamani, while Adebowale Abayomi and Ayodele Ajayi were elevated to the rank of Deputy Corps Commanders.
