ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday attributed the successes recorded by his administration over the past three years to divine grace, prudent management of resources and an unwavering commitment to responsible governance, declaring that every milestone achieved since assuming office in May 2023 has been made possible through God’s wisdom and guidance.
Speaking at the 2026 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day held at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba, the governor said his administration had remained focused on delivering impactful projects and people-oriented programmes across the state despite prevailing economic challenges. He noted that Delta had continued to execute major development projects and meet its financial obligations without resorting to borrowing.
The event attracted an array of dignitaries, including political leaders, traditional rulers, clergy, government officials, business executives and residents from across the state.
Governor Oborevwori described his three years in office as “eventful, exciting and enlightening,” while expressing gratitude to Deltans for their support, trust and cooperation.
“Today, we are celebrating three years of this administration. Indeed, this is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our sight. I remain eternally grateful to God for finding me worthy to serve the people of Delta State in this capacity,” he said.
Highlighting one of the major achievements of his administration, the governor stated that prudent financial management had enabled the state government to embark on extensive infrastructural development without incurring debt.
“We are here to thank God for the wisdom to execute development projects all over the state without borrowing a kobo from anybody or bank. Every contract that we give out, the money is available. We have constantly discharged our obligations to our contractors,” Oborevwori declared.
He noted that peace and security remained critical to the success of his administration, stressing that the stable environment in Delta State had continued to attract investments and strengthen economic growth.
The governor commended security agencies for their commitment to maintaining law and order and acknowledged the contributions of former governors Chief James Ibori, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for laying foundations that have contributed to the state’s development trajectory.
He also appreciated Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, the Delta State House of Assembly led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, civil servants, political appointees, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders for supporting the administration’s MORE Agenda.
Calling for greater unity among Deltans, Oborevwori urged residents to rise above political and ethnic differences and work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous state.
“Delta State is our home. We don’t have any other state. What is important is how we come together to build this state. With unity, Delta will continue to move forward and become an envy of other states,” he said.
Earlier, renowned cleric Apostle Joshua Selman, in a sermon titled “Ever Increasing Progress,” encouraged leaders and citizens to remain steadfast in their faith and dependence on God as the foundation for lasting success.
Selman commended the state government for sustaining the culture of thanksgiving and public acknowledgement of God, describing gratitude as a key ingredient for sustained growth and progress.
He outlined seven biblical principles for continuous advancement, including abiding in Christ, pursuing knowledge, courage, humility, strategic relationships and maintaining a lifestyle of thanksgiving.
The cleric also praised Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to development and infrastructure delivery, urging him to remain focused despite challenges and criticisms.
The thanksgiving celebration featured praise ministrations by renowned gospel artistes, including Dunsin Oyekan, Moses Bliss, Asu Ekiye, Solomon Urete, M & Revelation, Jerry Ekpekuro and Solo Kings, while the Deputy Governor delivered the scripture reading.
A major highlight of the event was the cutting of the third anniversary cake, symbolising three years of the Oborevwori administration amid applause from guests and dignitaries.
Among those in attendance were former governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone, members of the House of Representatives, including Francis Waive, Jonathan Ukodhiko and Nnamdi Ezechi, as well as several prominent political, traditional and religious leaders.
As worship songs filled the Dome Event Centre, the governor reiterated his commitment to leadership anchored on accountability, service and faith, pledging to continue pursuing policies and programmes that would strengthen development and improve the lives of Deltans.
