PORT HARCOURT/Nigeria: The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Odest Global Resources, a Customs Bonded Terminal based in Port Harcourt, Mr. Chidera Oganuzo, has congratulated Acting Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of the Human Resources Department, Frank Onyeka, on his recent promotion, describing the elevation as a fitting reward for hard work, professionalism and dedication to service.

Oganuzo also lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, for demonstrating a strong commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence within the Nigeria Customs Service through strategic appointments and promotions.

Speaking on Onyeka’s elevation, Oganuzo said the appointment reflects the confidence the Customs leadership has in his competence, wealth of experience and proven ability in human and material resource management.

According to him, the promotion further highlights the CGC’s determination to place capable and result-oriented officers in key positions to advance the ongoing reforms and modernization agenda of the Service.

Recalling Onyeka’s years of service at the Onne Port Command, Oganuzo said he witnessed firsthand the officer’s dedication, professionalism and strict adherence to cargo clearance procedures.

He noted that Onyeka distinguished himself both as a young officer and later as Officer-in-Charge of the Federal Operations Team (FOT) Gate at Onne, where he demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring compliance with customs regulations and preventing the release of prohibited and harmful goods into the Nigerian market.

“His commitment to due process and operational excellence was evident throughout his service at Onne. He understood that effective customs administration requires strict compliance with procedures and the protection of citizens from unwholesome imports,” Oganuzo stated.

The Odest Global Resources boss further described Onyeka’s elevation as proof that integrity, dedication and selfless service remain valuable virtues in public service.

He said the Acting ACG has consistently exhibited leadership qualities, ethical conduct and a strong sense of responsibility throughout his career, making him deserving of the new position.

Oganuzo also expressed confidence that Onyeka’s appointment would strengthen human capital development within the Customs Service and help sustain the reforms and innovations introduced under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adeniyi.

He noted that stakeholders across the maritime and trade sectors believe the Customs Service will continue to consolidate its gains in personnel development, revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations with Onyeka playing a strategic role in the administration.

According to him, Onyeka’s remarkable achievements in revenue collection, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations, particularly during his service at the Tin Can Island Port Command in Lagos, further justify his elevation.

Describing the promotion as a call to greater responsibility, Oganuzo urged officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service to remain committed to the vision of the Comptroller-General.

“This elevation is a call for more work. I urge officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service to redouble their efforts and commitment towards achieving the tripod policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs, anchored on Consolidation, Collaboration and Innovation, in line with international standards and global best practices,” he said.
