ASABA/Nigeria: The lawmaker representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive, has described the Delta State Government’s approval of the ₦22.69 billion reconstruction of the Udu-ECN Road as a strategic investment that will transform transportation and stimulate economic activities across the area.
According to the federal legislator, the project goes beyond road construction, as it is expected to improve access to communities, reduce travel time and create opportunities for businesses that depend on the busy transport corridor.
Waive, who chairs the House of Representatives Committee on Rules and Business, said residents of the constituency had long anticipated the rehabilitation of the road due to its importance to commercial and social activities in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas.
In a message shared on his verified Facebook page, the lawmaker expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving the project, describing the decision as another indication of the administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of the people.
He noted that the governor’s investment in critical road projects across Delta State would leave a lasting impact on the state’s development.
“Your administration continues to execute legacy projects that will outlive all of us across the state, and we are grateful,” Waive stated.
The reconstruction project covers approximately 20 kilometres of the Udu-ECN Road, beginning from the Warri-Port Harcourt Expressway at ECN Junction and terminating at the DSC Expressway at Udu Road Junction. It also includes a two-kilometre spur linking Otor-Udu.
The contract was approved during the 14th meeting of the Delta State Tenders Board for 2026, presided over by Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and awarded to Niger Construction Limited (NigerCat), with an expected completion period of 18 months.
Speaking after the approval, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said the intervention was in response to sustained concerns by residents and road users over the deteriorating condition of the route.
He expressed confidence that the contractor would deliver a quality project within the agreed timeline, noting that the reconstruction aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda of expanding infrastructure and improving connectivity across Delta State.
The Udu-ECN Road serves as one of the major transport links connecting communities in the federal constituency. Its reconstruction is expected to ease the movement of people and goods, improve access to businesses and institutions, and support economic growth along the Udu-Otor-Udu axis and adjoining communities.
