ABUJA/Nigeria: Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, has received fresh tributes as he marks his 68th birthday, with his contributions to governance, leadership development and the growth of Delta State drawing commendation from political leaders and associates.

Among those who honoured the former governor was Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, who described Ibori as a visionary leader whose administration laid the foundation for the emergence of a modern Delta State.

In a goodwill message released on Tuesday, Dafinone said Ibori’s legacy extends beyond physical infrastructure, noting that his investments in human capital, inclusive governance and the grooming of a new generation of political leaders continue to shape the political and developmental landscape of the state.

According to the senator, the former governor’s contributions to democratic governance, national unity and the development of the Niger Delta remain significant chapters in Nigeria’s political history.

He also acknowledged Ibori’s continued role as an elder statesman, saying his experience, counsel and commitment to peace, stability and national progress have continued to command respect across political and ethnic divides.

Dafinone said the former governor’s enduring commitment to the development of Delta State and his dedication to the advancement of the Urhobo Nation have earned him admiration from many who still regard him as a source of guidance and leadership.

“As you mark another year of God’s grace, I pray that the Almighty grants you continued good health, strength, wisdom and many more fruitful years. May He continue to preserve you as you provide purposeful leadership and invaluable guidance to our nation, Delta State and the Urhobo Nation,” the senator said.

He congratulated Ibori on behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, wishing him continued good health, fulfilment and many more years of service to the nation.

Chief James Ibori served as Governor of Delta State from 1999 to 2007, a period during which his administration implemented major infrastructure projects and public sector reforms. He has remained an influential figure in the political evolution of Delta State and the Niger Delta, with many of his former associates occupying leadership positions at both state and national levels.
