LAGOS/Nigeria: Afriland Properties Plc has appointed Mrs Iyabode Olayemi Ayobami-Ojo as an Independent Non-Executive Director, bringing more than three decades of experience in real estate, corporate governance, business services and institutional management to the company’s board.
The company announced the appointment in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, describing it as part of efforts to strengthen its board with experienced leadership.
Ayobami-Ojo’s appointment adds significant real estate and corporate management experience to the board, following a career that included senior management positions within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. and its subsidiaries.
She previously served as Managing Director of NNPC Properties Ltd., the real estate arm of NNPC Ltd., where she was involved in the management and development of the company’s property portfolio. NNPC’s corporate information identifies her as a former Managing Director of the property subsidiary.
During her tenure, she provided leadership in efforts to reposition the organisation, improve governance and enhance the commercial performance and value of its assets.
Her professional career also included service as Director of the NNPC Academy and Executive Director, Business Services at NNPC Trading Ltd.
She had earlier served in stakeholder and relationship management within NNPC’s Corporate Communications Division and as General Manager, External Relations.
With the new appointment, Afriland Properties is expected to benefit from her combination of real estate knowledge, institutional management experience and corporate governance expertise as the company continues to expand its activities in the property sector.
Commenting on the development, the company’s Managing Director, Mr Azubike Emodi, welcomed Ayobami-Ojo to the board, saying her record in institutional transformation would add value to the company’s strategic direction.
Emodi said her experience would be particularly relevant to the company’s efforts to execute its growth strategy, expand its property portfolio and create sustainable value for stakeholders.
He added that the appointment reflected Afriland Properties’ commitment to effective corporate governance, board performance and experienced leadership.
Ayobami-Ojo holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Arts from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
