UGHELLI/Nigeria: Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief Cyril Ogodo, has thrown his weight behind the re-election bid of Senator Ede Dafinone, urging party supporters and political associates across Delta Central Senatorial District to work for his return to the National Assembly in 2027.
Ogodo said Dafinone’s tenure had, in his assessment, demonstrated commitment to the interests of the senatorial district, arguing that continuity would provide an opportunity to consolidate what he described as the senator’s achievements in office.
The former state APC chairman made the call while mobilising his supporters and political associates for Dafinone’s second-term bid, urging party members to place the collective interest of Delta Central above political differences.
He said the 2027 election would provide voters with an opportunity to assess the quality of representation they want and decide whether to retain the incumbent senator.
“Politics is about service and representation. Where a representative has shown commitment to his people, we should give him the opportunity to continue,” Ogodo said.
He appealed to APC stakeholders in the district to close ranks ahead of the election, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s prospects.
Ogodo said party leaders and members should work towards greater unity and remain committed to issues that advance the interests of the senatorial district.
His endorsement comes amid intensified political activities within Delta Central as parties and aspirants position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. Dafinone, who represents the district in the Senate, has in recent days stepped up consultations with APC leaders and grassroots executives as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the poll.
Dafinone secured the APC senatorial ticket for Delta Central at the party’s 2026 primary, although former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege subsequently disputed the outcome.
Ogodo’s latest call adds to the growing mobilisation around the Delta Central senatorial contest, with political stakeholders increasingly seeking to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections.
