ASHAKA/Nigeria: The Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU) is set to invite candidates contesting elective positions in the 2027 general elections to present their programmes and development plans directly to the people of Ndokwa.
The President-General of the union, Chief Amechi Asugwuni, disclosed this on Sunday during the NNU town hall meeting for Ndokwa East Local Government Area held at Ashaka Event Hall, Ashaka, Delta State.
Asugwuni said the proposed engagement would provide candidates from different political parties with an opportunity to explain their vision for Ndokwa and respond to questions from residents on issues affecting the region.
He said the initiative was intended to help voters make more informed decisions by assessing candidates based on their programmes, ideas and proposed solutions to the challenges confronting the area.
The NNU leader urged Ndokwa communities and stakeholders to participate actively when invitations are extended to the candidates, stressing that meaningful engagement would require the involvement of the people.
“We are putting all Ndokwa citizens on notice that when the invitations are presented, we expect encouraging participation from our people to give room for fruitful consultation and deliberation,” he said.
According to him, the proposed interaction would also allow residents to raise issues of concern, seek clarification from candidates and make constructive contributions to discussions on the future of Ndokwa.
Asugwuni said the union remained committed to promoting unity, development and responsible political participation across the Ndokwa communities.
He encouraged stakeholders to embrace constructive criticism as a means of identifying challenges and developing practical solutions, rather than allowing political differences to undermine the collective interests of the region.
The NNU President-General also called on community and political stakeholders to place the development of Ndokwa above personal interests, saying unity would strengthen the people’s ability to engage political leaders and demand accountability.
He maintained that political participation should not end with voting during elections, but should include sustained engagement with elected representatives and scrutiny of their performance.
The proposed interaction with 2027 candidates comes as the NNU rounds off its three-leg grassroots consultation programme across Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West and Ukwuani. The consultations have focused on identifying issues that could form part of a broader development agenda for the region
