ASABA/Nigeria: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to focus its 2027 election campaign on governance, policy and performance, while warning politicians and their supporters against inflammatory rhetoric and actions capable of undermining peace.

The pledge was made by Mr Charles Aniagwu, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, on Monday in Asaba, while unveiling members of the committee responsible for communicating the party’s campaign message.

Aniagwu named Valentine Onojeguo as vice chairman, Hon. Timi Tonye as secretary, and Festus Ahon, Sir Kelly Okolugbo and Jackson Ekwugum as members.

He said the committee would focus on the policies and records of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside those of APC candidates contesting seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Delta State House of Assembly.

According to him, the committee would engage journalists to ensure voters received information about the party’s candidates, programmes and policy positions as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We will stay with the issues,” Aniagwu said, expressing confidence that the performance of the federal and state governments would provide the party with material to present to the electorate.

He said the committee’s work would include responding to questions about government policies and explaining how the APC believed its programmes could improve the welfare of Nigerians and residents of Delta State.

However, Aniagwu stressed that political competition should not threaten the state’s peace, cautioning politicians against statements that could incite supporters or encourage them to take the law into their own hands.

He said the state government would not tolerate violence, regardless of the political party or individuals involved, and urged political actors to report suspected electoral offences to the appropriate authorities.

“We are not in a jungle republic,” he said, adding that security agencies and the relevant institutions should handle complaints about conduct that violates electoral guidelines.

The campaign spokesman also rejected electoral malpractice as a campaign strategy, saying the APC intended to seek re-election by presenting its record in government.

“We will not get involved in rigging elections. We will show our report card,” he said.

Aniagwu maintained that voters should assess the party’s candidates on their performance, policies and proposals rather than be influenced by threats or provocative political statements.

He further urged political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint in their public comments, particularly as campaigns approach, warning that inflammatory language could trigger attacks or reprisals around polling units.

The committee’s unveiling comes amid preparations by political parties to organise their campaign structures ahead of the 2027 elections. The Delta APC has also called on its campaign officials and supporters to avoid hate speech, character assassination and false propaganda, according to reports on the party’s campaign directives.

Aniagwu said the committee would continue to communicate the policies and programmes of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations, expressing optimism that the party’s record would help it secure public support.
