Those who know me know that I do not sing the praises of politicians. I have spent years questioning those in power, challenging empty promises and calling out conduct that falls short of what our people deserve. Praise from me is not given lightly, and it is never for sale.

So, when I say that Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu deserves to be celebrated, I say it with full conviction. He has earned my respect not through favours or friendship, but through his charisma, his values and what he represents: proof that a politician can still be honest, capable and faithful to the people who sent him. As he turns 60, I join the people of Ukwuani land in celebrating not just a birthday, but six decades of a life defined by service, integrity and results that people can see and touch.

A CAREER BUILT FROM THE INSIDE

Few Deltans understand the workings of government as well as Hon. Emetulu. His public service did not begin at the ballot box. He first worked with MDS, an education agency in Delta State, where he gained a deep, practical understanding of how government policy reaches ordinary people. During those years, he helped many Ukwuani sons and daughters find employment, particularly in the education sector, opening doors that changed the fortunes of entire families.

His competence did not go unnoticed. He was appointed Commissioner for Energy in the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, bringing his knowledge of the system to the executive arm of government. For the past seven years, he has represented the people of Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly.

That rare combination of experience across the civil service, the executive and the legislature sets him apart. It explains why, as a first-term lawmaker, he was named Chairman of the House Committee on Education, a position seldom given to first-timers in Delta’s legislative arrangements. It was a recognition of capacity, not a reward for noise.

INTEGRITY IN AN AGE OF EMPTY PROMISES

Nigerian politics today is too often dominated by people who make countless promises just to win votes or stay relevant. Hon. Emetulu has chosen a different path. He has protected his values and his integrity, and he has let his work speak for him. In my view, he is one of the very few decent and trustworthy politicians in Ukwuani land and in Nigeria as a whole. I know of no legislator from Ndokwa West who has achieved what he has achieved, or who commands the respect he commands on the floor of the House.

IMPACT THAT CAN BE VERIFIED

The true measure of a representative is what his people can point to. For my own community, Umuseti of Utagba Uno Clan, the evidence is personal. Since 1999, Umuseti has never benefited from government the way it has under Hon. Emetulu’s representation. Life-impacting projects in Umuseti and across other Ukwuani communities stand as proof that his representation has made a real difference to how our people live. These are not claims; they are things anyone can visit and verify.

A WORD TO THOSE WHO WOULD SUCCEED HIM

As Hon. Emetulu’s tenure draws towards its close, I want to offer a candid word to those aspiring to replace him: promise less. Hon. Emetulu’s experience allowed him to hold a leading position in the House and to get things done. A first-timer, working with a limited constituency budget, may find it difficult to do the same. Our people deserve honesty, not promises that cannot be kept.

SIXTY YEARS OF GRACE

At 60, Hon. Charles Chukwuemeke Emetulu has shown that public office can still be a place of honour. His life reminds a new generation that leadership is not measured by how loudly one speaks, but by how faithfully one serves.

On behalf of myself, the Umuseti Community, home and diaspora, and Umu Ezeti Global Connect Initiative, I celebrate this trusted voice, faithful representative and true son of the soil.

Happy 60th birthday, Honourable. May God grant you good health, long life, and many more years of delivering beyond expectations.
