ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Council of the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN) has reiterated its confidence in the leadership of Comrade Jude Obiemyengho, confirming plans for the upcoming state election. This was revealed in a communiqué following an extraordinary general meeting held in Asaba on Wednesday, September 5, 2024.
The communiqué, signed by the council’s Publicity Secretary, Sir Cyprian Eboagu, KSJI, highlighted the robust attendance of indigenous publishers and active members. It was during this meeting that the council reaffirmed its earlier vote of confidence in Comrade Obiemyengho’s administration, commending his dedication to conducting a free and fair election.
The ACNPN State Congress, which will elect new executives, was confirmed as the next step in the association’s leadership process.
In line with the association’s constitution, the council also reconfirmed the appointment of an Electoral Committee headed by Mrs. Ifeoma Osizigbo, Publisher of Guide Express. The three-member committee has been tasked with establishing the guidelines and procedures for the upcoming election to ensure a seamless leadership transition.
The council clarified that the current executive council, under the leadership of Comrade Obiemyengho, remains fully functional and has not been dissolved. Members of the public and association members were reminded that the executive body will continue its duties until the new elections take place, with oversight from Mrs. Osizigbo’s committee.
Ahead of the elections, the council urged all members, particularly those who have been absent from meetings for over a year, to regularize their membership. Only members in good financial standing will be eligible to vote, contest, and participate in the state congress, in accordance with the association’s constitutional provisions.
Furthermore, the ACNPN issued a stern warning to the public, advising them to steer clear of any individuals or groups claiming to represent the association without being under the leadership of Comrade Obiemyengho.
Recognizing the economic challenges facing the country, the council resolved to hold some of its monthly meetings virtually, while physical meetings will continue to take place at the association’s state secretariat on Chukwura Street, Asaba.
The meeting concluded with the council extending condolences to members who had recently lost loved ones, including Barrister Jude Chukwuha of Global Legend and Ms. Charity Mayor of Point Out Magazine.
