ASABA/Nigeria: The Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwuyenga has unveiled a pocket-size edition book on youth policy as part of activities to mark this year’s World Youth Day.
In his opening remark, during the Africa Youth day celebration in Asaba, the commissioner stated that the National Youth Policy was aimed at building futuristic mindset, which he said, would be well equipped in content and skill development amongst Delta youth.
The commissioner also revealed that the ministry intends to train many youths as possible from the raw state to the productive state through its program designed for three sets of youth which are: the literate youths, semi literate and the illiterate youth.
The programme, he stated, would be done in all the local government areas of the state, adding that it was to ensure that every youth was involved.
He stressed that the focus was to ensure that the vision of the ministry was actualized with the aim of raising champions who would return to communities, where they represent.
Comrade Egwunyenga stated that he would not discourage youth from going into politics, but that they should key into skills development programs and be ready to work and make themselves useful in the society.
The celebration of the day was divided into four segment with four He’s making the main focus of the Africa youth policy which are Education: preparing youth for the future, Employment, Employability Skill Development and Digital Skill Inclusion, Entrepreneurship: 4th Industrial Resolution How Ready is the Youth” and Engagement Child Today, Youth Tomorrow bridging the divide.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Economics matters, Mr Kingsley Emu spoke on Entrepreneurship, said that the state government was doing everything possible, to bring Entrepreneurship development into the state by making most of its institutions 70 percent practical and 30percent theory, with the completion of six technical colleges with state of the art facilities, with more 19 technical colleges under construction. Tat the stated government has ensured that each local government across the state gets one technical college.
Other members of the panellist were, Barrister Eugene Uzum, Director General, Delta State Bureau for orientation, the vice chancellor of delta state university Abraka, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga represented by Prof. Iwegbu Maxwell, special Adviser to the governor on youth development, Ambassador Caroline Usikpedo amongst others.
The high point of the celebration, was the unveiling/Lunch of the “pocket Size Edition” National youth policy (NYP) 2019-2023.
The Africa Youth day is celebrated by United Nations in the month of November annually. The celebration of Africa Youth day aims to increase awareness and strengthen youth partnership as well as increase intercultural exchanges and understanding among young people.
