Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Lawyers Acknowledge Court Notice Over Allegations Against Akpabio

ABUJA/Nigeria: The legal team representing Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has acknowledged receipt of a notice from the Director of Prosecution at the Federal High Court, Abuja, regarding a three-count charge filed against the lawmaker. The notice, dated Friday, May 23, 2025, outlines allegations that the senator, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, made damaging imputations against the person of Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate.

According to the legal team, the charges stem from statements allegedly made by Akpoti-Uduaghan, which prosecutors claim were intended to harm the reputation of Senator Akpabio. The notice was received by the legal firm West-Idahosa SAN & Co., which has been defending the senator in matters of public interest.

Confirming the development in a statement signed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ehiogie West-Idahosa, the firm stated, “We received the court notice this afternoon on behalf of our client, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The charges leveled against her are rooted in alleged defamatory statements against the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.”

The legal team emphasized their readiness to confront the charges with due diligence and respect for the rule of law. “We shall take all necessary legal steps to defend our client. We intend to adequately prepare with all relevant facts and present same before the court during the trial,” West-Idahosa added.
