Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Crises: GOVT Declares Area a Security Zone

Nigeria PoliceAsaba: The Delta State Government had declared the disputed area of Aladja, in Udu Local Government Area and Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South-West both in the State as security zone for three weeks, and had stated that no economic or human activities should take place.

The government stated this in a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Festus Ovie Agas.

The Circular read as:

It is hereby announced for the Information of the general public, particularly people living in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government areas, that in furtherance of the on-going work of the eight-man panel of enquiry investiating the boundary dispute between Aladja Community in Udu Local Government Area and Ogbe-Ijoh Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area, it has become necessary to declare the entire stretch of land between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities, from Warri/Forcados Rivers into the hinterland, a Security Zone for a period of three weeks.  Consequently, the Delta State Government has by this announcement declared the said stretch of land a Security Zone and this declaration shall subsist and remain in force from Monday, 22 August, 2016 to Monday, 12 September, 2016 (both dates inclusive).

Through-out the period of the subsistence of this declaration, no human traffic or economic activities shall take place within this stretch of land and members of the public are hereby advised to be guided accordingly.
