UGHELLI/Nigeria: Following the Viral video of alleged SARS Shooting of a young man in Ughelli, the headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, AIG, Sholla David, FDC, PSC (+), today 5/10/2020 paid a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Wilson Oharisi 111, JP.
Speaking to the Ughelli Monarch and his palace chiefs, the AIG zone 5, said the visit was to see the victim of the incident on the viral video and to ensure that peace exist between the police and the people of Ughelli, with a view to dousing the already tensed relationship between the police and the public.
He commended the Ughelli Monarch and the people of Ughelli for their support for the truth and the maturity with wish they handled the situation by carrying out investigation that later revealed the truth about the actual state of things, saying that, but for their actions, the whole place would have been on fire.
The AIG zone 5, who described the social media as a very powerful means of communication that could carry Information round the world in a second and could also do much damage, said, what happened was of great concern to the Inspector General of Police hence the IG took swift action to forestall future occurrence.
“Am sure the people of Ughelli Kingdom would also have read yesterday of the new directives of the Inspector General of Police, with regards to the new policy on policing.
“We are going to go round to sensitize and direct our Officers and men accordingly that they must comply to what the IG has directed,” he added.
He solicited the support of the people of Ughelli Kingdom for a cordia relationship between the local police and the general public and for effective policing of the kingdom.
Responding, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Wilson Oharisi 111 JP, commended the police for the swift response to the issue at hand which formed part of the visit.
The Ughelli Monarch said he was shocked when he first saw the viral video, but as a father, he decided to make personal inquiry to ascertain the truth behind the video and later discovered that facts were distorted to weep up sentiment.
While assuring the police of his support, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, said the kingdom had been peaceful and ascribed it to the police and the local vigilantes who have worked hand in hand to forestall criminal activities that hitherto bedeviled the community.
Present at the visit were the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Lawal Adamu Shinkafi, the President General, Ughelli Descendant Union, Chief Pius Omubaye, the Chairman, School of Health Governing Board, Dr Chris Oharisi, amongst others.
