Amai Kingship: Committee Setup to Prepare Roadmap for Lasting Peace

Obiaruku: The longtime kingship tussle in Amai kingdom, Ukwuani LGA, Delta State will soon be over, if the peace committee setup to look into the kingship stool is allowed to work and the recommendation accepted by the Amai people and the parties involved.

In a recent meeting convoked by the Chairman of the local government, Barr Benedicta Ndudi Osakunih-Izuegbu as initiated by the Deputy Governor, Barr Kingsley Otuaro, to bring the warring parties together, came up with a peace process that will be based on a four (4) man committee report that is expected before 31 December, 2016.

The committee, which has three (3) points reference, of finding the root cause of the problem, ascertain if the official gazette was followed, and to prepare a roadmap of lasting peace, has the Ezi of Ezhionum, HRM Roland Osawuta as the Chairman, the Chairman of the LGA, Barr Benedicta Ndudi Osakunih-Izuegbu, as Secretary, and the Ebu of Umuebu, HRM Donald Ekeruche, and the Onochieze of Umutu, Chief Abel Okonye as members.

The people of Amai for Four years had been devilled with internal crises, resulting from the crowing of a new king after the death of the last king, HRM Monday Ossai, in 2012.

At the death of the last king, it is expected that the people of Umuekum based on the kingship gazette, is to produce the next king after selection process that will produce an acceptable person for the entire Amai kingdom.

However, according to a reliable source, after the election which was conducted for four persons from the Umuekum quarter, the next ruling house, who were High Chief Andrew Ikogwe, Chief Paul Ifenezuche, Chief Jimoh Oyibo and Chief Alex Ochonogor, the supposed winner of the election, High Chief Andrew Ikogwe was rejected by other quarters, and projected Chief Paul Ifenezuche, as the king-elect.

It is expected that the committee will come out with a recommendation that will bring lasting solution to the problem that had been on since 2012.
