AWKA/Nigeria: The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has on a heartfelt mission to spread joy this Christmas by distributing an array of gifts to over 200 children across various orphanages and motherless babies homes within the state.
Her visit encompassed establishments like the Onitsha South Motherland Babies Home, Onitsha North Community Motherless Babies and Orphanage Home, and the Missionaries of Charity Gift of the Mercy Community children’s Home.
Expressing her intentions to the press during her visit, Soludo underscored the significance of the gesture, aiming to illuminate the spirits of the children during the festive season. “Christmas is a time to cultivate happiness and extend love, particularly to motherless children and the less privileged, who greatly benefit from our support,” she emphasized.
Highlighting her extensive reach, Soludo disclosed, “Anambra boasts 39 homes catering to abandoned and motherless children. I’ve already visited eight, and my goal is to share the joy of Christmas with all these children.” Her commitment to the cause was clear: “To me, Christmas signifies reaching out to those in need, especially the less fortunate, motherless, and abandoned children. They deserve our care and a distinctive display of affection to partake in the celebrations.”
Moved by the conditions she witnessed, Soludo pledged assistance, stating, “In my visits, I’ve witnessed the remarkable cleanliness and the dedicated care provided by the caregivers. I encountered a severely ill baby requiring urgent medical attention. I am determined to ensure the child receives all necessary healthcare to thrive and be healthy.”
In a call for communal support, Soludo urged individuals, corporations, and groups to join in uplifting the less fortunate during this festive season. Her efforts were met with gratitude from Mrs. Rita Anekwe, Manager of Onitsha North children’s home, who expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Governor’s wife, acknowledging the significant impact of the generous gesture on the children’s happiness.
The distributed gifts encompassed various essentials such as cash donations, tubers of yam, bags of beans, rice, toiletries, and beverages, aiming to brighten the lives of the young recipients during the holiday season.
