ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has called on all Owa people, especially the youths, to close ranks and speak with one voice in issues of politics and governance.
Aniagwu made this call today in Asaba, when the Owa Youths in Politics (OYP) paid him a courtesy.
Aniagwu urged all Owa indigens to fully support and identify with his Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, adding that the governor had steadily demonstrated politics of inclusiveness and equity, both in Owa land and the state in general.
The commissioner, in describing the governor as the ‘father of all’, called on all Ika people to fully identify and support the governor in whatever political decision he made, explaining that Okowa’s action was always in the best interest of the people.
Aniagwu also used the occasion to call on women to become more active in politics, explaining that it would avail them more opportunities in government.
Earlier, the leader of the association, Hon. Friday Okoh, having called on the commissioner to identify with the aims and objectives of the forum, eulogised the personality of the commissioner, describing him as a worthy and illustrious son of Owa.
In describing the large personality of Mr. Aniagwu, Hon. Okoh added that: “All Owa people are proud of you and everybody wants to identify with you because the good work you are doing and the effective representation you are giving the Owa people in government.”
The group called for a person, preferably a youth and a woman, from Ika Eastern to represent the Ika North East in the Delta State House of Assembly, and also, for a woman to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives come 2023 general elections.
Okoh pointed out that since inception, no woman had represented the people in Delta State House of Assembly, Asaba.
On ground with the commissioner to receive the association was the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Paul Osahor, the Director of Publication and Production Services, Mr Lucky Omokri; and Director of Information, Mrs Theresa Oliko, among others.
