OGWASHI UKU/Nigeria: The race to the Delta State House of Assembly, Aniocha South has taken a new dimension with the official entrance of the burgeoning Youth Leader, Comrade Chinedu Mayor Enujekor, the immediate past National President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria. In a hugely attended ceremony in Ogwashi Uku, the LGA Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party, the imposing real estate consultant formally declared his intention to run for the seat of Aniocha south in the Delta State House of Assembly 2019 general elections.
“I have not come here to make the numbers,” he said. “Aniocha South is obviously in a sorry state and it is embarrassing and painful. If someone had told me at the beginning of this year that I’m going to stand here putting myself forward to serve in this capacity, I would have laughed and put it aside. Having traversed the length and breadth of this country, and outside this country and beyond the African continent. Having sat with people of different orientation both locally and internationally, it downed on me that there is an need to reboot Aniocha South and give it a fresh perspective. I was born and raised here. I have experienced first hand, what deprivation is about. I know what our hugely talented Youth and specially endowed Local Government is capable of, but for bad leadership and representation.
I’m in this not just to make a difference, but to reload the despairing giant.
Aniocha South is in a sorry state, but most importantly, Aniocha South, the People of Aniocha and mostly the youth deserve something better”
Speaking to a pool of journalists shortly after the ceremony, the Party LGA
Chairman, Director General of Comrade Chinedu Mayor Enujekor campaign organisation and some other party leaders where full of excitement at the entrance of the record making Youth leader turn politician.
“I am specifically happy that this firebrand of youth is seeking to represent
Aniocha South and it is happening under my watch. No doubt his experience in Youth activism that saw him go all the way to the very height of youth leadership in Nigeria will be brought to bear in this vandalised Local Government of ours. We are indeed fortunate to have him and Aniocha South is privileged. “~ Mr Thomas Ohai (Chairman Aniocha South SDP).
Responding to journalists, the DG of his campaign organisation was full of praise for the Youth Leader.” I have worked with him quite closely in the Last ten years, and his mercurial rise has not taken me by surprise. Comrade Mayor is not going to the state House of Assembly to rehearse or to practice representation, or to steal money, Mayor has built a name for himself, and a good name at that. He has been using his resources to do push the course of the youths.
He has been organising carnivals and workshops. This young man is not imported, he is abreast with the problems and challenges of this constituency. Mayor is an organiser, a visionary leader, he is a goal getter, but most importantly he is a good listener. I believe that Aniocha South will give Mayor their mandate to rewrite our story.”
Mr Okonkwor Chukwuma Aniocha South is promising to be one of the most contested in the state House of Assembly and the introduction of the National Youth leader seems to be bringing in that much needed vibrancy going by the euphoria this declaration has evoked.
Aniocha South Local Government is one of the oldest Local Governments in Nigeria and the home to notable global Icons like Prof Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and so many political leaders.
