ASABA/Nigeria: Chief Emma Ejiofor, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, has said the proposed Anioma State possesses all the ingredients of a viable and prosperous federating unit, citing its fertile agricultural belt, strategic location, and enterprising population as pillars of its economic strength.

In an exclusive interview, Ejiofor stated that the region, which comprises the Igbo-speaking communities of Delta North, is well positioned for accelerated development and effective integration into the nation’s economic framework. According to him, Anioma is not only prepared for statehood—it is overdue for it.

“Anioma has all it takes to stand on its own. The economic potential of the region is massive—our land is fertile, our people are industrious, and our location is strategic. There is no doubt Anioma will thrive as a state,” he said.

Ejiofor noted that support for the creation of Anioma State has been growing rapidly, with widespread endorsements pouring in from traditional institutions, community-based organizations, women’s groups, youth networks, and elders’ councils. He said the groundswell of support reflects a national awakening to the justice and viability of the Anioma cause.

“What we are seeing now is a collective consensus—one that cuts across regional and political lines. The people want it, and the nation is beginning to see the merit in it,” he said.

Ejiofor, a respected political strategist, declared the statehood push a “done deal,” lending his full backing to Senator Ned Nwoko’s legislative campaign currently gaining momentum in the National Assembly. He praised Nwoko’s courage and foresight, describing him as a transformative figure in the struggle for Anioma statehood.

“Senator Ned Nwoko’s move is commendable and long overdue,” Ejiofor stated. “I fully support his efforts. The creation of Anioma State is now a done deal. What we are witnessing is the culmination of years of consistent advocacy. The time for action is now.”

He went further to describe Senator Nwoko as a rising force in national politics, earning admiration not only from his constituents but also from colleagues in the legislature.

“He is a shining star in the National Assembly. Anioma people will be proud anytime they walk into that chamber and see their senator in action. Nwoko is an asset not only to Anioma but to the entire nation,” Ejiofor said.

The push for Anioma State has deep historical roots. Ejiofor recalled that the idea dates back to the 1950s, when political leaders from the Aboh and Asaba divisions championed the cause in the Western Regional House of Assembly. According to him, decades of delay and political missteps had slowed progress, but a turning point has now been reached.

“Past efforts were often derailed by internal divisions and a lack of coordinated leadership. But those days are behind us. Today, we are united. And Senator Nwoko has become the rallying point,” he noted.

Ejiofor emphasized that the present level of political cohesion and grassroots mobilization is unprecedented in the Anioma movement, making this moment the most promising in the long quest for statehood.

“With a leader like Senator Nwoko at the forefront, we are confident that the goal will be achieved. He is leading with integrity and courage, and all Anioma people, and indeed Nigerians, should be proud,” he added.

He urged all stakeholders—both within and outside Delta State—to lend their voices and influence to the cause, saying the creation of Anioma State would strengthen national unity and deliver development to a deserving region.

“The question is no longer whether Anioma State will be created, but when,” Ejiofor concluded. “And that time is now.”
